Fire Safety & Electrical Insights: What Every El Paso County Homeowner Should Know

Essential fire safety & electrical tips every homeowner should know! Protect your home with expert insights for a safer, more secure living environment.

Fire is a hot topic lately especially locally. On Facebook there is a page we recommend called, What's on Fire? El Paso County Area.

Recently, I was able to visit with the fire chief in Falcon and enjoyed sharing about what we are up to in our area as well as learning about what they are seeing in our part of the county.

One of the topics of discussion was that we recently have been added to the list of contractors at Mt. View Electric, our local electrical utility, who can locate and repair underground faulted cables. According to Mt. View during the soon and upcoming wet season they can get an average of 5 faulted service cables a week. Other electrical contractors charge double what we will be charging for such a service. Part of that has to do with, I suppose, the travel time out to the eastern plains and back to the Springs.

When I am able to visit with our local fire fighters the question we want the answer to is, "What are you seeing in regards to electrocutions and electrical fire?".

Because we install so many gfi's, that reduced electrocutions when released back in the late 70's, early 80's (reduced reported US electrocutions by 800/year) we wonder if they are still doing there job. The answer is yes! Jeff said that they aren't seeing electrocution calls.

What they are seeing is, not electrical fires, but fires started by folks putting out their cigarettes in their potted plants near their homes and much later they are blown back into flame and onto the side of or under the house.

We have responded to post house fire calls, but that's a story for another day. We don't want anything like what we saw with the Hamen fire, Waldo Canyon fire, or Black Forest Fire. Be careful out there, neighbors:)

When it comes to electrical work in your home, safety should always be your top priority. While some DIY projects can be tackled by homeowners with the right skills and knowledge, there are certain tasks that should be left to the professionals. Hiring an electrician in Colorado Springs can ensure that your electrical projects are done correctly and safely. In this blog, we will explore five home projects where it's advisable to hire an electrician, rather than attempting them on your own.

           1. Electrical Wiring Installation and Repair

One of the most crucial tasks that should be handled by a professional electrician in Colorado Springs is electrical wiring installation and repair. Whether you're building a new home or renovating an existing one, proper wiring is essential for the functioning of your electrical system. An electrician has the expertise to ensure that the wiring is installed correctly, minimizing the risk of electrical hazards such as short circuits and fires. They can also troubleshoot and repair any issues you may be experiencing with your electrical wiring.

           2. Electric Panel Upgrades

As technology advances and our reliance on electrical devices increases, older electrical panels may not be able to handle the demand. This is especially true if you are looking to upgrade to an electric car or find yourself wanting to add more appliances to your home. If you are frequently tripping breakers or you experience power fluctuations, it may be time for a panel upgrade. Upgrading your electrical panel requires knowledge of electrical codes and regulations to ensure compliance and safety. A Colorado Springs electrician can assess your power needs, determine the appropriate panel size, and handle the installation professionally. Additionally, they can even pull the appropriate permits with El Paso County or one of the surrounding ones.

           3. Lighting Fixture Installation

Installing lighting fixtures may seem like a simple task, but it can quickly turn into a challenging endeavor. From selecting the right type of fixtures to wiring them correctly, there are many factors to consider. Additionally, if you want to install recessed lighting or add new fixtures where none existed before, it may involve cutting into walls and ceilings. To avoid potential hazards and ensure a seamless installation, hiring one of many electricians near me is the way to go. They will ensure that the wiring is done properly and that your new lighting fixtures are installed safely.

           4. Outlet and Switch Installation

Adding new outlets or switches to your home can provide convenience and improve functionality. However, it's not a job that should be taken lightly. Wiring mistakes or improper installation can lead to electrical shocks or even electrical fires. Electricians are well-versed in the proper installation techniques, ensuring that the wiring is correctly connected and grounded. They can also advise you on the best locations for outlets and switches based on your needs and local Colorado Springs electrical codes.

           5. Electrical Safety Inspections

Even if you're not planning any specific electrical projects, it's a good idea to have your home undergo regular electrical safety inspections. An electrician can thoroughly examine your electrical system, identifying any potential issues that may pose a safety risk. They will check for faulty wiring, outdated components, and other hazards that could lead to electrical accidents. By hiring an electrician for an inspection, you can have peace of mind knowing that your home is safe and up to code. This is especially helpful if you are getting ready to sell your home.

           Conclusion

While some home improvement projects can be tackled as DIY projects, electrical work is not an area to cut corners. By hiring an electrician in Colorado Springs, you can ensure that your electrical projects are handled with expertise and precision. From wiring installation and repair to panel upgrades, lighting fixture installation, outlet and switch installation, and electrical safety inspections, getting a professional electrician can provide the necessary skills and knowledge to get the job done safely.

Noticing flickering lights or frequent breaker trips? Learn the key signs that it’s time to call an electrician in Colorado Springs for expert help.

Electrical issues can be a cause for concern in any household. While some minor problems can be fixed by homeowners themselves, it's crucial to recognize when it's time to call in a professional. In Colorado Springs, where the weather can be unpredictable and electrical systems are put to the test, it's even more important to address electrical problems promptly. This blog post will highlight several signs that indicate it's time to pick up the phone and call an electrician in Colorado Springs.

           Frequent Circuit Breaker Trips

If your circuit breaker frequently trips, it's a clear sign that something is amiss. Circuit breakers are designed to shut off electrical flow when there's a surge or overload, protecting your home from potential fires or electrical damage. However, if you notice a pattern of frequent tripping, it could indicate an underlying electrical issue. An electrician can assess the problem and determine if it's due to faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, or other issues that require professional attention.

           Flickering Lights

Flickering lights are not only annoying but also indicative of electrical problems. If you notice lights dimming or flickering regularly, and there’s not an afternoon thunderstorm happening, it's time to consult an electrician in Colorado Springs. The issue could be related to loose wiring, faulty fixtures, or a faulty electrical panel. A professional electrician will be able to diagnose the root cause and make the necessary repairs or replacements to ensure your lights function properly.

           Burning Odors or Strange Smells

The presence of burning odors or strange smells, particularly near electrical outlets or switches, should never be ignored. These odors could be a sign of overheating wires or electrical components. Ignoring such signs could lead to electrical fires or damage to your property. It's important to contact an emergency electrician in Colorado Springs immediately to inspect and resolve the issue, ensuring the safety of your home and family. If the smell persists or you see any smoke, it’s best to call the local fire department and get your family and animals safely out of your home.

           Electrical Shocks

Experiencing electrical shocks when you touch an appliance or switch is a definite cause for concern. Electrical shocks are a sign that there is a problem with the wiring or grounding in your home. While the dry climate in Colorado Springs can certainly lead to more static and therefore more shocks, don’t discount the possibility that there is something more to it. It's crucial to prioritize your safety and contact an electrician right away to identify and rectify the source of the electrical shock.

           Outlets and Switches Not Working

If you find that outlets or switches in your home are not functioning, it could be an indication of faulty wiring or a more complex electrical issue. Attempting to fix the problem without the necessary expertise can be dangerous and might worsen the situation. Instead, reach out to a qualified electrician who can diagnose the problem and implement the appropriate repairs to restore functionality to your electrical outlets and switches.

           Buzzing Sounds

Unusual buzzing or humming sounds emanating from electrical fixtures, outlets, or appliances can be a sign of electrical trouble. This buzzing noise could be caused by loose connections, faulty wiring, or other electrical issues. Ignoring these sounds can lead to more significant problems down the line. Electricians in Colorado Springs can help you identify the source of the issue and prevent further complications.

           Hot or Warm Outlets

If you notice that electrical outlets are hot to the touch or emit heat, it's a sign of a potential problem. Overheating outlets can be caused by overloaded circuits, faulty wiring, or loose connections. Such issues can pose a fire hazard and should be addressed right away. An electrician will be able to evaluate the situation, identify the root cause, and implement the necessary repairs to ensure the safety of your home.

           Frequently Blown Fuses

While the occasional blown fuse is not uncommon, frequently blown fuses can be a cause for concern. Blown fuses are a sign that there is an electrical overload or short circuit in your home's electrical system. This can lead to a complete loss of power and pose a safety hazard. While you may not need to rewire a house, you probably need some major repairs to your electrical system. Fixing electricity in Colorado Springs starts with finding the right electrician near me. Consulting with an electrician will help identify the underlying issue and prevent future blown fuses by implementing the appropriate electrical upgrades or repairs.

           1. Are you licensed and insured?

One of the most important questions to ask any electrician is whether they are licensed and insured. A licensed electrician has undergone the necessary training and has the knowledge and skills to perform electrical work safely. Insurance is also essential to protect you, your home, and the electrician in case of any accidents or damage that may occur on your property during the job.

           2. How much experience do you have?

Experience plays a crucial role in the quality of workmanship an electrician can provide. Ask about the electrician's experience in the field, especially regarding the specific type of electrical work you require. You don’t want someone installing an electric panel who usually only does work on plugs and light fixtures. An experienced Colorado Springs electrician is more likely to handle challenges effectively and provide reliable solutions.

           3. Can you provide references or testimonials from past clients?

A reputable electrician will be happy to provide references or testimonials from previous clients. Contacting these references will give you an insight into the electrician's work ethic, professionalism, and customer satisfaction. Positive feedback from past clients is a good indication that you're dealing with a reliable electrician.

           4. Do you offer warranties or guarantees on your work?

Another important question to inquire about is any warranties or guarantees the electrician offers on their work. A reliable electrician should stand behind their craftsmanship and be willing to address any issues that may arise after the completion of the job. Asking about warranties will give you peace of mind knowing that you're protected if something goes wrong.

           5. What safety measures do you take?

Electrical work can be hazardous, so it's essential to hire an electrician who prioritizes safety. Ask the electrician about the safety measures they implement when working on projects. This includes using personal protective equipment, following safety codes and regulations, and taking precautions to prevent accidents and electrical hazards.

           6. Can you provide a detailed estimate for the project?

Before hiring an electrician, it's important to have a clear understanding of the project's cost. Ask for a detailed estimate that includes the cost of materials, labor, and any additional charges that may apply. Having a written estimate will help you compare prices between electrical contractors and ensure that there are no surprises when it comes to the final bill.

           7. Will you obtain the necessary permits for the job?

Certain electrical projects require permits from local authorities. It's important to confirm whether the electrician will handle the permit process or if it will be your responsibility. A reputable electrician should be knowledgeable about local Colorado Springs regulations and ensure that all necessary permits are obtained before starting the work.

           8. What is your timeline for completing the project?

Time is often a crucial factor when it comes to electrical work, especially if it's affecting your daily routine or business operations. Ask the electrician about their estimated timeline for completing the project. A reliable electrician should be able to provide a reasonable timeframe based on the complexity of the job and their current workload.

           9. Do you subcontract any of the work?

In some cases, electricians may subcontract certain aspects of a project to other individuals or companies. It's important to be aware of this and ask about the subcontractors' qualifications and experience. You want to ensure that everyone involved in the project is skilled and reliable.

           10. What payment options do you offer?

Lastly, discuss the payment options available with the electrician. Inquire about their accepted payment methods and whether they require a deposit upfront. It's important to have a clear understanding of the payment terms before the work begins to avoid any misunderstandings or issues later on.

Are you considering upgrading your electric panel in Colorado Springs? A properly functioning and up-to-date electrical panel is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your home's electrical system. However, before you dive into this project, it's essential to be well-informed. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the key aspects you should know before upgrading your panel. From understanding the need for an upgrade to finding a reliable Colorado Springs electrician, we've got you covered.

The Importance of an Upgraded Electric Panel

Your electric panel, also known as a circuit breaker panel or distribution board, is the central hub that distributes electricity throughout your home. Upgrading your panel is necessary for several reasons. First, older panels might not support the electrical demands of modern households, leading to frequent tripping or overloaded circuits. Upgrading to a higher-capacity panel ensures that you have sufficient power for all your appliances and devices.

Secondly, outdated panels may pose safety risks due to outdated components or insufficient grounding. Upgrading to a newer panel with advanced safety features minimizes the chances of electrical fires and electrical shocks. Lastly, building codes and electrical regulations evolve over time. If your electric panel is outdated, upgrading it ensures compliance with the latest safety standards and code requirements, which can be especially helpful for insurance purposes or if you ever go to sell your home in Colorado Springs.

Signs that Indicate the Need for an Upgrade

Not sure if it's time to upgrade your electrical panel? Look out for these signs. Frequent circuit breaker tripping is a clear indication that your electrical panel is overwhelmed and needs an upgrade. If your breakers trip frequently or if you need to constantly reset them, it's time to consider an upgrade. Additionally, if your lights flicker or dim when you use certain appliances or switch on multiple devices simultaneously, it may be a sign of an inadequate power supply. Some people may believe that they need to rewire a house, when in reality, they may only need a panel upgrade.

           Hiring a Professional Electrician

Upgrading a panel is a complex task that requires expertise and knowledge. It is crucial to hire a professional electrician for this job. Ensure that the electrician you hire is licensed and certified in Colorado Springs. This guarantees that they have the necessary training and qualifications to handle your electric panel upgrades safely.

Read customer reviews and ask for references and look for electricians in Colorado Springs with ample experience in upgrading panels. This can help you gauge the reputation and reliability of the electricians you are considering. It is also important to verify that the electrician has liability insurance to protect you and them against any damage or accidents that may occur during the project.

           Permitting and Code Compliance

In Colorado Springs, electric panel installation and upgrades require permits and must adhere to local building codes. It is crucial to consult with your electrician to ensure that all necessary permits are obtained and that the upgrade complies with local regulations. Failure to do so can result in fines, safety hazards, or issues when selling your home in the future.

           Upgrading to Meet Future Needs

When upgrading your panel, it's essential to consider your future electrical needs. Evaluate your current and anticipated power demands. If you plan on adding new appliances, such as high-powered ovens, or air conditioning units, make sure your upgraded panel can handle the increased load. Consider any home additions or plans to install electric vehicle charging stations, as these require additional electrical capacity.

The Cost of Electric Panel Upgrades

The cost of upgrading an electrical panel can vary depending on various factors, including the size of the panel, the complexity of the installation, and the local labor rates. It is recommended to obtain multiple quotes from reputable electricians to ensure a fair price. Remember that while cost is a consideration, prioritizing quality and safety should be paramount.

           Benefits of Professional Installation

Choosing from the many professional electricians in Colorado Springs offers numerous benefits. They possess the necessary expertise and skills to handle complex electrical projects safely and efficiently. This means that many homeowners spend a lot of time and effort to create a welcoming outdoor patio environment where they can grill food, enjoy meals, and spend time with family and friends. With these spaces comes the need for landscape lighting. Here are some ways to light up your Colorado nights with some of the top landscape lighting trends.

More and more Colorado Springs residents are transitioning to LED lights for their outdoor spaces. These fixtures have been in indoor lighting schemes for a long time now, and more homeowners are looking for outdoor lighting options that have them as well. Whether you are looking for string lights or pathway lighting, these LED options are a more sustainable option that helps save you money on your long-term electric costs.

Another trend in adding lights to your landscape is to use them to illuminate the exterior of your home. This goes beyond just adding sconces to your entryway. Lighting up your walking paths is another trend in adding lighting to your landscape. Colorado Springs homeowners, especially in areas that don’t have streetlights, like to use walkway lights to create an easy to navigate pathway. These lights come in many styles that can add a high-end look to your home. Gone are the days when you can only find outdoor lighting in black. One of the trends in landscape lighting is to use a variety of finishes that complement your home and aesthetic. This may mean finding brass or copper finishes for the front door lighting or something that uses a more natural material like rattan under the front porch. These same finishes can be used throughout the landscape in a variety of ways from Edison bulb style string lights to lanterns on your patio or deck. Some lights fixtures are even available in bright colors. Some of the best landscape lighting in Colorado Springs incorporate a mixture of lights.

Most people will never experience an electrical fire in their homes, or another issue caused by faulty electrical wiring. This is good news. The bad news is that many homeowners have electrical hazards in their homes that put them at a greater risk of issues, and they don’t even realize it. Because they aren’t professionals, they don’t know about hazards that can cause harm. Here are some tips to help you gain the knowledge you need to avoid the most common electrical hazards.

           You Keep Overloading the Circuits

One of the most common electrical hazards in most residential homes are overloaded circuits. This happens when you have too many appliances and devices that connect to a single circuit. The problem goes beyond just tripping the breakers when you run the hair dryer or the air fryer in the kitchen. The bigger issues is that the circuit is carrying a higher load than it was designed for. This problem can lead to overheating, melted wires, and even electrical fires.

To prevent your circuits from getting overloaded, make sure you distribute the load evenly. When you add new electronic devices to your home, have your circuits inspected by a Colorado Springs electrician. They can help you add new breakers if needed or tell you where to add the new items to ensure that your circuits don’t get overwhelmed. You can also use surge protectors to guard your electronics and you should also regularly look at any exposed wiring to ensure that there are no visible signs of burning or melting.

           Old Electrical Wiring

Many older Colorado Springs homes have outdated electrical systems and wiring that’s probably more worn out than you realize. Older wires can break down, become frayed, or even melt the plastic coating putting you at a greater risk of electrical fires and shocks. The first thing you should do is find a professional who does electrical repairs near me in Colorado Springs, Peyton, or the surrounding area.

This person can inspect your older wiring and can suggest upgrades to your wiring that can make it safer in your home. They can often rewire a house as well if needed to remove dangerous wiring. Rewiring may be a good option if the house is several decades or and if there is evidence that the wiring is not good.

           Don’t Mix Water and Electrical

Do your due diligence to ensure that water cannot get into your electrical systems. Of course, water is a great conductor for electricity, but that means it poses a danger to humans who may be in contact with appliances or outlets that are too close to water sources. These can cause electrical shocks that can be more than just uncomfortable, or they can lead to house fires from excessive sparking.

If you want to avoid this hazard, start by ensuring that your kitchen and bathroom outlets are GFCI if they are within a certain distance from a source of water like the tub or faucets. Make sure your outdoor plugs have protective covers that keep the water out. Make sure you don’t run cords outdoors that are not rated for it. And if you have any questions, talk to a Colorado Springs electrician about it to ensure that your home electrical system is free from these hazards.

Use Caution With DIY Electrical Projects

Many popular TV shows make it look easy to create DIY projects in the home. And while many updates can be done with care by the average homeowner, it’s important not to skimp on electrical work. Poorly executed DIY electrical work can result in faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, and fire risks.

Look for a residential electrician in Colorado Springs or Peyton if you live out in the country to do electrical work for you. For any work beyond changing a simple light fixture or switch, a licensed Colorado Springs electrician can help. They will be able to ensure that the work is done well, that it’s safe, and that it meets all local electrical codes. A residential electrician in Colorado Springs will also be able to obtain any necessary permits and help schedule inspections on your behalf.

           Electrical Panel Hazards

The electrical panel is very important for the electrical system in your home. If you have more than one circuit on a breaker, or if you have outdated components, it can put your home, and the people who live in it, at risk. You can mitigate this risk with an electrical panel inspection or an upgrade.

If your panel is outdated or cannot handle the changing electrical needs of your home, a new panel is crucial. Local Colorado Springs electricians can help assess the safety of your panel and make recommendations. And as always, if you have any electrical needs in Colorado Springs, Peyton, or the nearby areas,

Christmas is coming and with it comes Christmas decorations, fun events for the whole family, baking, and time to make new memories. People love the lights and glitter that come with the season. Driving through neighborhoods with amazing light displays bring with it so much joy. But it also brings some electrical hazards that many people don’t account for.

Whether it’s overloading circuits like on National Lampoon’s Christmas or struggling to find a spot to safely and easily access your lights, these hazards can be buffered with the right solution. In this blog, we'll explore the top five reasons why you should consider installing switched outlets for your Christmas lights in Colorado Springs.

           What is a Switched Outlet?

A switched outlet, also known as a half-hot outlet or a split outlet, is a type of electrical outlet that has a built-in switch, allowing you to control the power supply to the outlet. These outlets have both a standard electrical receptacle for plugging in devices and a switch located on the wall plate or in close proximity to the outlet.

The key feature of a switched outlet is that you can turn the power to the outlet on or off using the switch. When the switch is in the "on" position, the outlet provides electricity, allowing you to plug in and use devices like lamps, appliances, or electronics. When the switch is in the "off" position, the outlet is deactivated, cutting off power to any devices connected to it. When it comes to installing Christmas lights, putting in a switched outlet comes with many benefits.

Convenient Control Over Your Christmas Lights

Sometimes people run lights on their house and through their yard in a way that can look like tangled spaghetti. Trying to get electricity to these light strands can be difficult. Add to that finding the right spots to plug in when you want to turn your lights on in the late afternoons and evenings in Colorado Springs, and you have a recipe for disaster. Instead of trying to struggle with cords and timers, you could flip a switch to get that holiday vibe for your home.

Switched outlets allow you to control your Christmas lights without having to venture outside in the cold or rain. You can even set up multiple switched outlets throughout your property, making it effortless to control different sections of your holiday display separately. This includes putting up switched lights in the eaves of your home to help you control homes that are on the house, so you don’t have to create dangerous circuits that put your home at risk during the holidays.

           Enhanced Safety

Safety should always be a top priority when it comes to Christmas decorating, especially when working with electricity. Traditional outdoor extension cords and timers can be susceptible to damage from the elements, posing safety risks such as electrical shorts and fires. However, with switched outlets, you can eliminate and reduce many of these risks.

Switched outlets are designed to meet safety standards and are equipped with built-in protection mechanisms. They are typically weatherproof and can withstand Colorado Springs' winter weather conditions, ensuring that your holiday lighting is safe and reliable. Additionally, the convenience of easily turning off your lights when you're not using them reduces the risk of accidents, making your holiday season worry-free. It’s important to use a Colorado Springs electrician who can help install these switches safely.

           Increased Energy Efficiency

Colorado Springs residents are no strangers to chilly winters, and the cost of keeping your home warm can add up quickly. With switched outlets, you have the power to maximize your energy efficiency during the holiday season. Traditional timers often lack the precision to turn off your lights when you want them to, leading to unnecessary energy consumption. By taking advantage of the precise control they offer, you can keep your home festive without breaking the bank. A good Colorado Springs electrician can help you create a system that maximizes electricity while also keeping your home and your family safe.

           Extended Lighting Lifespan

Christmas lights are an investment, and it's disappointing when they burn out prematurely. Constantly leaving your lights on can shorten their lifespan, leading to more frequent replacements. When you add to that the potential issues that arise from stringing too many lights on a circuit, you can see how your lights could break sooner. With switched outlets, you can more easily switch out the lights that are broken and expand the lifespan of your lighting selections.

           Customizable Lighting Displays

People love custom lighting displays. Creativity is what makes it so special. Whether you prefer a classic, elegant look or a colorful and whimsical design, switched outlets can help you achieve your desired holiday aesthetic. With the ability to control different sections of your lighting display separately, you can create a customized look that suits your style. You can even experiment with various lighting effects by connecting different types of lights to separate switched outlets. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to bring your unique vision to life.

There are so many moving pieces to an effective home remodel. From setting the budget to choosing the most important spaces to upgrade, it can feel like a never-ending list. While everyone may want a showroom-ready home, there are some behind-the-scenes things you should consider.

One of the most important pieces of a home remodeling project is the electrical. Everything could look beautiful, but this important piece adds safety, functionality, and even energy efficiency. Plus, new well-paced lights can help light up even the darkest spaces. So here are some of the upgrades you should consider to your electrical system when planning a home remodel in Colorado Springs.

           Assess Your Current Electrical System

With a remodel often comes new appliances, new fixtures, and other elements that require electricity. Before getting started, it’s important to use a Colorado Springs electrician to assess your current electrical system. They can help you decide if your electrical panels, outlets, and wiring are going to be able to handle anything new or if they need an overhaul as well. Any new demands you place on your current electrical system could lead to problems if not completed properly.

A pro tip is to conduct a thorough electrical inspection to identify potential safety hazards or outdated components that need to be replaced. This proactive approach ensures a smooth remodeling process.

           Upgrade Your Electrical Panel

There are many benefits to upgrading your electrical panel. Modern electrical panels offer increased capacity, improved safety features, and enhanced energy efficiency. Upgrading your electrical panel ensures that it can accommodate the additional load from new appliances, lighting, and outlets you'll be adding during the remodel. It’s a proactive step to ensuring that everything in your remodel goes smoothly.

Consult with an electrician in Colorado Springs or the surrounding towns to determine the right size and type of electrical panel for your specific needs. This will prevent future overloads and ensure your electrical system can handle all the beautiful upgrades in your remodel.

           Enhanced Lighting Design

New lighting design can make your home remodel truly shine. Proper lighting can transform the ambiance and functionality of any space. During your home remodel, consider upgrading your lighting fixtures and design. You can opt for energy-efficient LED lighting, smart lighting systems, and dimmer switches to create the perfect mood in each room. Work with your contractor, a lighting designer, and an electrician in Colorado Springs to help you be strategic in your lighting layout. They can help you get the right balance between ambient, task, and accent lighting.

Install GFCI Outlets in the Right Places

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets are a must-have in areas where water is present, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. GFCI outlets protect against electrical shocks by immediately cutting off power when they detect a ground fault. Make sure your contractor adds these GFCI outlets near sinks, tubs, showers, and outdoor outlets. They help to prevent accidents and keep your family safe.

           Consider USB Outlets

More and more people use USB plugs to charge phones, computers, and more. A few well-placed dedicated USB outlets can help you, your family, and your guests charge devices without extra adapters or power strips. Install USB outlets in your newly remodeled spaces like the kitchen, living room, or bedrooms for convenience.

           Add Dedicated Circuits

When upgrading your kitchen or adding new appliances, consider adding dedicated circuits for high-powered devices like stoves, ovens, microwaves, and refrigerators. This ensures that these appliances receive a consistent and adequate power supply, preventing tripped circuits and potential fire hazards. Talk with the best electrical contractor Colorado Springs has to offer to determine the requirements of all your new devices. They’ll need to know which models you are planning to install and how much power they draw to help you figure out the best way to add these circuits.

           Invest in Smart Home Technology

More and more people are moving to smart home technology for the convenience and energy savings that come with it. During your remodel, consider integrating smart switches, thermostats, and security systems into your electrical upgrades. If you’d like, you can even explore options for voice-activated controls and remote monitoring to maximize the benefits of smart home technology.

           Conclusion
